Passing the Pick & Bow
Our after-school Appalachian music program, Passing the Pick and Bow, puts banjos, fiddles, guitars and mandolins in the hands of nearly 100 students each year. It’s free, year-round, and part of Appalshop’s broader mission to foster pride and connection to Appalachian arts and culture.
Classes are open to the general public on a sliding fee scale and scholarships are available for Letcher County students. Sessions last eight weeks and classes meet once a week for one hour. (Schedules subject to change based on needs)
We offer classes at various levels in:
Guitar
Banjo
Fiddle
