On Air Coming Up

“I am so proud to be able to listen to such a rich array of arts, music, and news from so near the place in the mountains where I was born and raised.”

–WMMT Listener, M.M.

Hello from all of us here at WMMT 88.7, Mountain Community Radio!

As you may or may not know, WMMT is a public, community station, which means that we rely on the generous gifts from our loyal listeners as well as businesses and organizations that choose to become WMMT supporters.

Our geographical reach and distinctive programming has led us to be one of the top ten most listened to stations in the tri-state region. In fact, a 2008 survey found nearly two thirds of folks sampled (at Hillbilly Days, Home Craft Days, then-Pikeville College, and from other spots around the region) identified themselves as WMMT listeners. Taken in tandem with our broadcast range and our 24/7 online stream, that’s a bunch of neighbors to reach.

With a 15,000 watt transmitter high on Pine Mountain, and nine translators throughout the region, WMMT broadcasts throughout Eastern Kentucky, Southwest Virginia, Southern West Virginia, parts of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina.

How You Can Help

Become a recurring member or one-time donor

WMMT’s blend of local news, public affairs, and 24/7 radio is vital to the community landscape in Eastern Kentucky. Your gifts sustain our work and allows us to make important upgrades, repairs, and continue bringing you impactful stories and content about Whitesburg, Eastern Kentucky, and the surrounding central Appalachian region. Whether you think to send us a gift once a year or work your support of WMMT into your monthly budget, we THANK YOU from the bottom of our possum hearts!

Donate your car

When you donate a vehicle to WMMT, you can actually turn your car into the programs you rely on and love. Your gift makes a difference at WMMT. In addition to supporting your favorite community radio shows, we’ll tow your vehicle for free, and your donation is tax deductible.

Donating a car is fast, easy and secure. Our community radio colleagues at CARS, Inc. accept almost any vehicle—running or not—including cars, trucks, RVs, and motorcycles. We work with CARS, Inc. to ensure that your donation delivers the highest possible return and that your experience is simple and convenient.

Why Donate your car?

There are several great reasons, like:

  1. You don’t want to worry about selling your vehicle.
  2. It is too expensive to repair your vehicle.
  3. You don’t trust your car to be safe on the road.
  4. You need a tax write-off.

But the most important reason is that your donation will help us keep mountain community radio going strong!

What is supportership?

If you’re new to supportership, it’s a unique, effective way to invest in your organization (and it also happens to support the best little radio station in the whole wide world): a short message describing your organization is regularly read aloud and on-air, either during our programming throughout the week or during a specific show of your choosing.

Add your name to the growing list of businesses, organizations, and individuals who use WMMT to get their message to a broad local, regional, and national audience.

We also have unlimited listeners worldwide on our internet stream.

For specific rates and information about WMMT supportership, check out the WMMT 2021 Supporter Packet.

We can be your neighbor spreading the good word about your business.

While commercial radio ads sometimes feel they need to scream to get your attention, WMMT works less like a megaphone and more like a neighbor spreading the word about your business. Listeners hear about your organization from real people.

Different types of supportership

  1. General Supportership

The best value for the best price. Have your message broadcast throughout the day to our entire listenership!

  2. Program Supportership

Your unique message will be broadcast during WMMT programming of your choosing. New to WMMT? Our program director will be more than happy to help you choose programming that would be relevant to your target audience.

  3. Public Affairs Programming Supportership

Your message will be broadcast every weekday during a highly trafficked hour dedicated to community and regional news. Public Affairs Programming on Sundays tends to reach beyond our community to national listeners looking to stay in touch with current events and news in the region.

In addition, WMMT, as a non-profit community station, boasts some of the most loyal listeners in the area. Listener contributions make up a significant portion of our budget, and a team of almost 50 volunteers helps keep us afloat. Those good vibes our supporters feel toward WMMT will fall squarely upon your business or organization through your underwriting.
